The temporary exhibition hall of the Museo Dámaso Navarro in Petrer will open a new exhibition, Women in Prehistory, on 4 March at 19:00.

This educational exhibition has been touring for 20 years and remains as relevant as ever. Its aim is to highlight the key role women played during the Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Metal Ages.

The exhibition will be on display in the “Archaeologist Concha Navarro” room until summer.

A fresh look at prehistoric societies

“Women in Prehistory” offers an updated view of archaeological research.

It challenges old stereotypes and presents a more balanced picture of life thousands of years ago.

Through clear panels, graphics, replicas and original objects, visitors can explore different aspects of daily and social life.

The exhibition looks at:

  • Women’s role in hunting and gathering
  • Their presence in domestic and community spaces
  • Their importance within the family unit
  • Their role in care, teaching and passing on knowledge

One of the most striking sections recreates a female burial discovered during an excavation. This display invites visitors to reflect on the importance of women in funerary rituals and symbolic life.

The exhibition also includes examples of female figures in prehistoric rock art, showing women represented alongside men and animals in early artistic expression.
