If you enjoy running and supporting a good cause, Petrer has a charity run worth lacing up for this weekend.

On Saturday 28 March, the town’s historic centre will once again host the Desafío Bitrir, now in its third edition. The charity race is organised by Zancadas sobre Ruedas and Sense Barreres, with support from the local council.

A growing event

Year after year, the event has gathered momentum. Around 300 people took part in the first edition, while 500 joined last year. This time, organisers expect all 500 places to sell out.

Once again, the route will cover 5.5 kilometres through the streets of Petrer, giving runners a scenic tour of the historic centre.

Children’s races and main event

The day kicks off at 17:30 with children’s races in the Paseo de la Explanada. Several age categories will be available, and registration is free. Families can sign up on the morning of the event, and all young participants will receive prizes.

Later on, at 18:30, the main race begins. As the sun starts to dip, runners will pass near the Castillo de Petrer, adding a memorable backdrop that has become one of the event’s highlights.

How to register

Taking part is simple, but places are limited.

Registration for the main race costs €12 and must be completed online. With around 80% of spots already filled, it is best to sign up soon to avoid missing out.

Children’s races remain free, with registration available on the day.
