Do you fancy doing something a bit different while you are in Benicàssim?

Set aside a morning and head to the Carmelitano Winery Museum for a lovely tour and tasting.

Benicàssim is already known for its beaches, mountain walks and music festivals, but it also has some hidden gems. One of them is the Carmelitano Winery Museum, where you can learn about local history through its famous liqueurs.

Discover the story of Bodegas Carmelitano

The story of Carmelitano liqueur goes back over a hundred years. It all started when the Carmelite Fathers came to the Desert of Las Palmas and built a monastery. To help keep it going, they began making drinks using herbs from the nearby hills. And that’s how this unique tradition was born.

Today, Bodegas Carmelitano is one of the oldest distilleries in Spain. The team there keeps the old ways alive while also creating new and exciting drinks. When you visit, you will get a guided tour and the chance to taste some of their best. Expect a sip of their classic muscatel, the original Carmelitano liqueur, and their award-winning Premium 119 Gin.

There’s also a shop where you can buy a bottle to take home. It’s a fun visit, whether you’re a fan of spirits or just curious about the town’s past.

Carmelitano Winery Museum opening hours

The winery is open all year in the mornings from 09:00 to 13:30. Afternoon hours depend on the season but are always clearly posted. It closes all day on January 1 and 6, and on Christmas Day, and in the afternoons on a few other dates in December and January.

If you are going with a group, it’s best to book ahead. Call them on (+34) 964 30 08 49 or book online at carmelitano.com. You’ll find them at Calle Bodolz, number 12, right in the centre of Benicàssim.
