April is just around the corner, and Orihuela is rolling out a packed calendar of guided routes and activities.

The “Rutas y Visitas 2026” programme is designed for both residents and visitors, combining culture, history and outdoor experiences across the municipality.

However, places are limited, so advance booking through the official website orihuelaturistica.es, is essential.

Early April highlights Orihuela

To start the month, one of the standout events is “Legado Cultural”, running from 01 to 04 April.

The route begins at 11:00 from the Arco de Santo Domingo and focuses on Semana Santa de Orihuela, which holds International Tourist Interest status. As a result, visitors get a closer look at the traditions and history behind one of the city’s most important celebrations.

Mid-month routes

Moving into mid-April, the programme continues with a series of themed routes.

On 09 April, “Alfonso X El Sabio en la Ciudad de Orihuela” starts at 16:30 from the Biblioteca María Moliner, exploring the city’s historical connections.

Then, on 17 April, the popular “Ruta de Conventos” returns. Beginning at 17:30 from Plaza del Carmen, it guides visitors through Orihuela’s religious and convent heritage.

Coast and countryside options

In addition, the programme also highlights the area’s natural surroundings.

On 18 April, the coastal route “Campoamor y Cabo Roig” starts at 09:00 from Dehesa de Campoamor. This walk focuses on the coastline and its landscapes.

Later, on 24 April, a new route titled “Las Torres Almohades” begins at 16:30 from Plaza de Santiago, offering a different historical perspective.

New activities added this year

This year also introduces some fresh additions to the programme.

On 25 April, visitors can choose between two new activities. First, a wine tasting takes place at Vinessence at 12:00 as part of the SICTED tourism quality initiative.

Alternatively, early risers can join the “Ruta Perruna”, a dog-friendly walk in La Murada starting at 08:30. Not only is it free to join, but it also includes breakfast and small gifts for participants.

Culture and art to close the month

Finally, the programme turns to art and literature.

On 26 April, the “Murales de San Isidro” route explores street art inspired by Miguel Hernández. Starting at the Guernica mural, the route follows the poet’s life through artworks across the neighbourhood.

The month concludes on 30 April with a literary event at the Casa Museo Miguel Hernández. At 18:00, writer José Antonio Alonso will present his work, continuing the venue’s strong connection to poetry and literature.
