There is plenty of live music on the way in Denia this weekend, with two very different festivals bringing dancing, workshops and concerts to the city.
The Fishtail Swing Fest returns, with public events in Denia on Saturday 12 September. Then, on Sunday 13 September, the Al Dani Festival, Sounds of the Mediterranean takes over the Social Centre.
The two events form part of a wider cultural weekend shared between Denia and nearby Pedreguer.
Swing takes over the squares
Fishtail Swing Fest starts on Friday with registered activities at L’Androna
Multiespai, including a welcome class and concerts from Sentimental Gentlemen and Enric Peidro Swingtet.
On Saturday, some of the action moves into central Denia, giving everyone the chance to get involved.
A beginners’ Lindy Hop class starts in Plaza María Hervás at 12:00, followed by music from Fishtail All Stars. Both activities are open to the public.
The festival moves to Plaza del Consell from 18:00 for a Solo Jazz class and marching band. Dancing then returns to Plaza María Hervás at 19:30, accompanied by Tropical Moon Jazz Band.
Mediterranean music on Sunday
Sunday brings a change of tempo when the Festival Al Dani arrives at Denia Social Centre.
The Associació Cultural Ibisko has organised the festival in Pedreguer for more than a decade. Last year, Denia joined as its second venue.
This year’s programme explores percussion, polyphonic singing and music created using everyday and recycled objects.
Percussionist Antonio Sánchez starts the day at 10:00 with a workshop showing how everyday objects can become instruments.
At 12:00, Xavi Lozano presents the educational concert Tubes of the World, exploring music through an unusual collection of sounds and instruments.
Workshops and a free evening concert
The afternoon programme starts at 17:00 when Óscar Jareño leads a polyphonic singing workshop. It is open to participants of all ages.
The Denia programme finishes at 19:00 with the free concert Music of the Unusual from the ReuSónica Orchestra.
The group creates music with instruments constructed from waste, recycled materials and ordinary objects.
