Rafal is about to get the party started, with its 2026 patron saint fiestas bringing several weeks of music, family activities, sport and traditional celebrations to the Vega Baja town.
The Rafal Patron Saint Fiestas begin tonight, Friday 11 September, and continue into October. The programme eventually builds towards celebrations for the town’s patron, the Virgen del Rosario.
There is plenty in between, including Moros y Cristianos, live bands, DJs, children’s activities, a fun run, parades and the traditional paella day.
The fiestas start tonight
This year, Rafal has brought the opening proclamation back to the beginning of the fiestas.
Mercedes Gómez Hernández and Francisco Jesús García Gómez will deliver the pregón at La Parrala at 22:00 tonight.
The opening night also includes a Correfocs, a lively fire-run procession, starting from Plaza de la Iglesia. The official fiesta rocket launch, or chupinazo, follows in Plaza de España, with DJ El Cejas adding music to the celebrations.
The September programme continues with a motorcycle club afternoon gathering and moto almuerzo, the XII Carrera Popular Villa de Rafal (12th Rafal Fun Run), live music and family activities.
Other events include children’s cycling games, the coronation of the fiesta queens and ladies, family theatre and celebrations for the town’s older residents.
Moros y Cristianos join the October celebrations
The programme steps up again in October, when Rafal’s Moros y Cristianos celebrations become a major part of the fiestas.
Events include the retreta, a lively informal parade through the streets, followed later in the programme by the main Moros y Cristianos parade.
There will also be an offering of flowers, a multicoloured parade, the traditional charanga and a street parade by the Banda Arte Musical de Rafal.
Two new additions this year are the Show Dance musical show and Babibidú Experience, which organisers have aimed particularly at families.
Music continues with Técnica 2000, La Hornet and the comedy show Lost in the 80s.
Virgen del Rosario at the heart of the fiestas
The religious celebrations centre on the Virgen del Rosario, Rafal’s patron.
The programme includes a mass and procession in her honour. This is followed by a pyromusical show from the terrace of Rafal Town Hall.
The fiestas will also feature the La Morera Casas Baratas Parade. Residents will also come together for the traditional paella day in Parque de los Olivos.
