Contemporary dance will once again take over the streets of Benidorm this week as the sixth Les Ones (the Waves) Dance Festival returns to the city.

From 25 to 27 June, the festival will bring three days of free outdoor performances to residents and visitors. Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España and Plaza del Castell will become open-air stages in the heart of Benidorm.

Local talent opens the festival

The programme begins on Thursday 25 June at 20:30 in Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España.

Local dance schools and students from Benidorm’s Municipal Conservatory will open this year’s festival.

One of the highlights will be La Nit de Sant Joan, performed by the Youth Company of Alicante Conservatory.

Professional dancer Joel Mesa will then close the evening with Tararero, a solo piece inspired by traditional Spanish folk songs.

Workshops and contemporary performances

Friday’s programme combines practical workshops with contemporary dance.

From 11:00 to 13:00, choreographer Ignacio Fizona will lead a dance workshop at Benidorm’s Cultural Centre.

The festival then moves to Plaza del Castell in the evening.

Audiences can enjoy Nueva Creación by Claudia Ferrando Sanz. After that, Ignacio Fizona and Lucía Moraleda will present Despliegue de la Penumbra.

Festival finale at Plaza del Castell

The final day, Saturday 27 June, begins with another workshop at the Cultural Centre.

Acclaimed dancer and choreographer Chey Jurado will lead the session from 11:00 to 13:00.

The evening programme starts at 20:30 in Plaza del Castell with No, presented by La Venidera Company.

Chey Jurado will then bring the festival to a close with Asceta, the final performance of this year’s edition.

Bringing dance to the streets

Since its launch, Les Ones has become one of the key events marking the start of Benidorm’s summer cultural programme.

All performances and activities are free to attend.
