It is official, Christmas planning has begun in Aspe. The town has launched its festive campaign Encendemos la Magia (“We Light Up the Magic”).

This year, the campaign is not just about tinsel and shop windows. The whole community is being invited to join in and turn Aspe into a proper winter wonderland.

Alongside the traditional shop window contest, locals can now take part in new categories for the best-decorated balconies, façades, streets, and neighbourhoods. The goal is to fill every corner of Aspe with lights, creativity, and that unmistakable Christmas cheer.

Christmas in Aspe: Prizes up for grabs

The competitions come with some decent prizes too. Councillor for Commerce Toñi García confirmed that winners will receive local shopping vouchers worth €100, €50, and €30. Plus, if a winning shop is not already a member of the Traders Association, they will get a free one-year membership.

Councillor for Festivals Rosa Ruíz shared the contest details, which include three main categories:

  • Family: balconies and façades
  • Collective: streets, neighbourhoods, and community displays
  • Commercial: shop windows

There are no restrictions on materials, although recycled or reused items are encouraged. Entries need to follow a Christmas theme, and registration will be open from 15 November to 1 December. You can sign up through the Town Hall’s website, at the Citizen Service Office at the Town Hall, or by sending in a form with three photos and a short video (under one minute).

Participants must keep their decorations up and lit from 8 December to 6 January, giving everyone plenty of time to enjoy the sparkle. The judging panel will make its decision based on the submitted photos and videos.

Full contest details and rules are available on the Aspe Town Hall website.

José Gras from the Traders Association said the idea is to make the festive spirit shine across the whole town. “We want the magic of Christmas to go beyond the shop windows and light up every corner of Aspe,” he explained. “It is about getting people out and enjoying the season together.”
