Direct flights from Alicante to Armenia! Alicante-Elche Airport has reached a new milestone with the launch of its longest direct route to date.
On Thursday 4 June, the airport welcomed its first direct flight from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. At around 3,800 kilometres, the new route overtakes Reykjavik in Iceland, which previously held the title as Alicante’s most distant direct destination at around 3,200 kilometres.
The new service marks the first time Alicante has had a direct connection with Armenia.
A new destination from the Costa Blanca
The inaugural flight from Yerevan is scheduled to land at Alicante-Elche Airport at 19:40.
Meanwhile, the first outbound flight to Armenia left the Costa Blanca at 20:40 and arrive in Yerevan at 03:00 local time. Armenia is two hours ahead of Spain.
The route will be operated by Armenian carrier FlyOne Armenia.
Flight times are expected to be around four hours and 40 minutes to Alicante and approximately five and a half hours on the return journey.
Alicante’s first direct link to Armenia
The new route is a first for Alicante Airport.
In fact, Alicante becomes only the second airport in Spain, after Barcelona, to offer direct flights to Armenia.
The service adds another new destination to the airport’s growing route network and further strengthens connections between the Costa Blanca and Eastern Europe.
Potential connections beyond Armenia
The new route could also provide easier onward travel to other destinations in the region.
FlyOne operates services from Yerevan to several cities, including Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Sochi, as well as destinations such as Tbilisi in Georgia, Tel Aviv in Israel and a number of cities in Egypt and Montenegro.
As a result, the new service may prove particularly useful for travellers looking to connect onwards through the Armenian capital.
A busy summer for Alicante Airport
The Armenia route is one of several new services launching at Alicante-Elche Airport this year.
Earlier this month, Air Serbia started a new direct connection to Belgrade, which will continue throughout the year.
Meanwhile, another brand-new route will launch shortly before the Hogueras de San Juan (Bonfires of Saint John) celebrations, when Pegasus begins flights to Istanbul with two weekly services.
Later in the year, Ryanair and Wizz Air will also introduce new direct routes to Venice Marco Polo Airport.
Continued growth for the Costa Blanca gateway
Alicante-Elche Airport continues to expand its international network as passenger numbers remain strong.
The launch of flights to Armenia not only adds a completely new country to the departure boards, but also establishes the longest direct route ever operated from the Costa Blanca’s main airport.
For travellers looking to explore a less familiar destination, Armenia has just become much easier to reach.
