The 2026 working calendar for the Valencian Community is now official, so it is time to start planning those long weekends.
This calendar applies to the whole region, including Alicante, Valencia and Castellón, and sets out the public holidays that will be observed from 1 January 2026. It includes national holidays, regional holidays and local days chosen by each town hall.
Under Spanish law, there can be a maximum of 14 paid, non working public holidays each year. Two of these must be local holidays, while the rest are shared between national and regional dates.
Holidays on the calendar in the Valencian Community
In 2026, residents of the Valencian Community will enjoy 14 paid public holidays. These are the dates confirmed for the region:
- 1 January, New Year’s Day
- 6 January, Epiphany
- 19 March, San José
- 3 April, Good Friday
- 6 April, Easter Monday
- 1 May, Labour Day
- 24 June, San Juan
- 15 August, Assumption of the Virgin Mary
- 9 October, Comunitat Valenciana Day
- 12 October, Spain’s National Day
- 8 December, Immaculate Conception
- 25 December, Christmas Day
Four of these dates are regional holidays chosen specifically by the Valencian Community. These are San José on 19 March, Easter Monday on 6 April, San Juan on 24 June and Valencian Community Day on 9 October.
In addition to these dates, each town or city will choose two local public holidays. These vary depending on where you live. For example, many places have selected Friday 20 March to create a long weekend around San José. In other towns, San Vicente Ferrer on 13 April has been chosen as a local holiday.
It is always worth checking with your local council to confirm which local holidays apply in your area.
Long weekends to look forward to in 2026
There are several good opportunities for long weekends in 2026, especially if you live in an area that adds local holidays.
San José falls on Thursday 19 March. In many towns, Friday 20 March will also be a holiday, creating a four day break.
Easter brings one of the longest pauses. Good Friday is on 3 April and Easter Monday on 6 April, giving many people time off from Thursday 2 April through to Tuesday 7 April.
Labour Day on 1 May falls on a Friday, making it an easy long weekend.
October is particularly generous. Valencian Community Day on Friday 9 October links neatly with Spain’s National Day on Monday 12 October. In practice, many people will enjoy a long break from Thursday 8 October through to Tuesday 13 October.
Christmas Day falls on a Friday in 2026, which means a built in long weekend to finish the year.
