Torrevieja has entered Spain’s top ten municipalities with the highest number of tourist holiday rental properties, underlining the town’s continuing popularity with both holidaymakers and overseas property owners.

The latest figures from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE) place the Costa Blanca resort among the country’s leading destinations for holiday accommodation, despite an overall national decline in the number of tourist lets advertised on online platforms.

Holiday rentals: Major part of the local market

The figures show that the Costa Blanca remains one of Spain’s strongest markets for tourist accommodation, second only to Málaga in the number of holiday rental properties available.

Torrevieja’s inclusion in the national top ten reflects its enduring appeal among international visitors, particularly buyers and holidaymakers from northern Europe who continue to drive demand for short-term accommodation.

The town’s extensive coastline, year-round sunshine, large expatriate community and easy access from Alicante-Elche Airport have helped establish it as one of Spain’s most popular holiday destinations.

National numbers fall

Although Torrevieja continues to rank among Spain’s leading tourist rental hotspots, the overall number of holiday lets across the country has fallen significantly.

According to the INE, Spain recorded a 10.7% year-on-year drop in tourist properties advertised on digital platforms, equivalent to more than 40,000 fewer holiday homes than a year earlier.

The Ministry of Housing attributes much of the decline to recent regulatory changes, including the introduction of Spain’s Digital Single Window for tourist accommodation and reforms allowing homeowners’ associations to restrict new holiday lets in residential buildings.

Costa Blanca remains a tourism powerhouse

Despite the nationwide reduction, Alicante province continues to be one of Spain’s strongest tourist accommodation markets, with more than 32,000 holiday rental properties recorded in the latest survey. Only Málaga has a larger supply.

For Torrevieja, the figures reinforce the town’s position as one of the Costa Blanca’s tourism heavyweights, where holiday apartments and villas remain an important part of the local economy alongside hotels, campsites and residential tourism.

With visitor numbers remaining high throughout much of the year, the resort continues to attract investors, second-home owners and holidaymakers looking for accommodation on Spain’s southeastern coast.
