Once again, Novelda will celebrate its Modernist Festival, filling its streets with elegant costumes, music, and all the charm of another era.

Get your lace gloves, waistcoats, and parasols at the ready. From 24 to 26 October, the town will travel back to the early 1900s.

Across the weekend, visitors can expect reenactments, guided tours, conferences and exhibitions. Enjoy children’s workshops, parades, masked balls, and a themed market that transforms the historic centre into a turn-of-the-century scene.

Mayor Fran Martínez unveiled the official poster, calling Novelda Modernista “an unmissable cultural reference point” in the province. The festival takes over key landmarks such as the Sanctuary of Santa María Magdalena and the Casa Museo Modernista. The Casa Gómez Tortosa will stay closed this year as it’s being renovated into a new Museum of Modernism.

Novelda’s Modernist Festival: Unmissable!

Novelda’s ninth Modernist Festival opens Friday night with a gala dinner at the Casino de Novelda. From Saturday, the town will become a living stage. Enjoy an early-1900s irrigation water auction in Plaça Vella, a café scene with an attempted attack. There will even be a period funeral which all adds to the fun.

Saturday evening brings one of the highlights: the Modernist parade, followed by the masked ball at the Casa Museo Modernista.

Throughout the weekend, visitors can also join guided tours of the Sanctuary of Santa María Magdalena, the Castle of La Mola, the Verdú Saffron-Spain factory, and the Casa Museo Modernista.

If you are free over the weekend, why not head over to Novelda and soak up the full atmosphere of Alicante’s most elegant time machine.

The mayor thanked the “people of Novelda, its companies, and associations” for their support, saying their enthusiasm helps keep the event thriving and puts Novelda firmly on the cultural map.
