Cheers to Alicante! If wine and a good street party are your thing, mark 20 September on the calendar.
Alicante is set to host the second Quintana en Vendimia (Quintana at Harvest Time), a celebration of wines carrying the Alicante Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).
From 10:00 to 17:00, Calle Poeta Quintana will turn into a festival space with 30 wineries taking part. Expect food, culture, and a strong push to support local shops.
Shops along Poeta Quintana will spill out onto the street with tastings, special offers and displays. Add live music, themed decorations, children’s workshops, crafts with cork stoppers, and the ever-popular barrel grape stomping, and you have got a great day out.
Entry is free, but to join the wine tastings, you will need to buy a ticket, which comes with an official tasting glass. Advance sales are available at Aperitivos Gisbert, Óptica Molina, Osiris and Peccati di Gola, all located on Calle Poeta Quintana.
The wineries
Names on the list include Bocopa, Enrique Mendoza, Les Freses, La Zafra, Finca Collado, El Sequé, Primitivo Quiles, Bodegas Volver, Sierra Norte and El Pinaret, among others.
From fresh and easy wines for new drinkers to rich, full-bodied bottles for seasoned palates, there will be plenty to explore. ¡Salud!
