February gets off to a lively start in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell with the celebrations for Saint Anthony, the patron saint of animals. Just a few days later, the town turns its attention to Saint Blaise.

Saint Anthony and the animals

Sunday 1 February sees animals of all shapes and sizes fill the streets for the Saint Anthony celebrations. In particular, pets and working animals from Benitatxell and neighbouring towns are warmly welcomed.

From 09:30 onwards, horses and carts will gather in the car park on Avinguda de València to enjoy a shared breakfast.

At 12:30, the parade will set off, accompanied by music from Colla La Llebetjà. The route will end on Avinguda de València with the traditional blessing of the animals. It promises to be a morning where four legs outnumber two.

February in Benitatxell: Hot chocolate

Meanwhile, celebrations continue on Tuesday 3 February with Saint Blaise. On this occasion, the Banda del Poble Nou de Benitatxell will host the traditional hot chocolate gathering.

From 16:30, hot chocolate and sweet rolls will be served at the Escuela de Música. Afterwards, at 17:30, a Mass in honour of Saint Blaise will take place at the Oratorio.
