Rural property is catching the eye of homebuyers on the Costa Blanca, with interest in countryside homes now outpacing urban areas.

According to Idealista, 54% of searches in the province are for homes in rural settings, reflecting a growing desire for space, affordability, and a slower pace of life.

The average price of housing in the Alicante province currently sits at €2,703 per square metre, but there is a noticeable gap between city and rural costs.

While urban centres like Alicante city have reached €2,508 per square metre after a 14.4% increase year-on-year in December 2025, smaller towns such as Villena, Redován, Monóvar, Benejúzar, Banyeres de Mariola, and Elda offer homes for under €900 per square metre.

Demand for rural property on the Costa Blanca

Places like Castalla have seen more than 2,700 new residents since 2019, drawn by lower prices and convenient links to Alicante. The trend is part of a broader shift in mindset: buyers are looking beyond cities for larger homes, quieter streets, and the benefits of rural life.

Across Spain, urban areas still dominate searches with 60% of interest, but Alicante bucks the trend, showing more interest in rural living. Other provinces following a similar pattern include Murcia, Girona, and Málaga, where affordability and lifestyle appeal are reshaping the housing market.

While rural properties remain more affordable than city homes, prices are steadily rising as demand grows, showing that the Costa Blanca’s countryside is now very much on the map for those seeking a balance between quality of life and value for money.
