The ninth Ondara Charity Run takes place on Sunday 18 October, with every euro raised going to the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), to support cancer research.

You can run five kilometres or take things at a gentler pace on the four-kilometre charity walk. Registration costs €7 for either option.

Race morning starts with zumba

The day starts at 09:00 with a zumba session before the main event gets under way at 10:00.

Runners and walkers will start from Avenida General Bosch, next to Ondara bullring, and return to the same point for the finish.

The five-kilometre race takes competitors through parts of Xebics, Mollons and Alfatares, as well as streets around the town. The four-kilometre walk offers an alternative for people who want to take part without racing.

Organisers describe the walk as suitable for different ages, making this as much a community event as a competitive race.

The morning will also include the presentation of the fundraising cheque to the AECC.

Registration is already open

Entries cost €7 and remain open until Thursday 15 October, unless the event reaches its limit of 1,000 registrations first.

You can register online through Som Esport. In-person registration is also available at Deportes Colau, Calzados Dora, La Furiona de Laura Vicens and Ópticos Ondara.

Organisers hope to reach the 1,000-entry mark again after strong participation in previous editions.

More than 150 businesses from Ondara and the surrounding area are also supporting this year’s event through sponsorship.

Stay for something to eat

Once everyone has crossed the finish line, the Festeros de la Soledad 2027 will run a bar, giving participants and supporters a chance to stay around after the race.

For anyone who has been considering giving a local 5K a try, this one comes with an alternative if running is not appealing. You can walk the four kilometres instead, enjoy the atmosphere and still help raise money for cancer research.
