Do you fancy getting a closer look at the Moon next weekend? Elda is joining an international night of stargazing, with telescopes ready at Casa Colorá on Saturday 19 September.

The town will take part in International Observe the Moon Night, a worldwide initiative promoted by NASA. The aim is to encourage people to explore and learn more about our nearest celestial neighbour.

The event starts at 21:00 and places are limited, so anyone interested will need to register in advance.

See the Moon through a telescope

Participants will have the chance to observe the Moon through telescopes and learn more about its surface. Some of the features are visible from Earth.

The event forms part of NASA’s International Observe the Moon Night. The event brings together astronomy groups and members of the public around the world for a shared night of lunar observation.

Elda’s event will take place at Casa Colorá, with the local astronomy association helping visitors get more from their view through the telescopes.

How to book a place

The event is open to the public, but advance registration is essential because organisers have limited the number of places.

You can register using the QR code on the event poster or through the online registration form provided by the council.

Environment councillor Cristina Rodríguez Armigen said the council wants to make science and astronomy more accessible through activities that people can take part in themselves.

She also highlighted the work of the Asociación Amigos de la Astronomía de Elda in bringing astronomy activities to the town.

For Costa Blanca residents who have looked up at the Moon countless times but never seen it through a telescope, Saturday night offers a chance to change that.
