Are you looking for something a little different in Benidorm this weekend? For the first time, the city will mark Chinese New Year over the weekend of 6, 7 and 8 March, welcoming the Year of the Fire Horse with a packed programme.

Weather permitting, events will take place outdoors in the Plaza de SS MM Reyes de España. If conditions turn, organisers will move activities indoors.

They will confirm the final decision on Thursday.

Chinese New Year: Food and culture

Celebrations begin on Friday from 17:00 to 23:00, when cultural and food stalls open to the public.

Visitors can browse traditional Chinese crafts, pick up commemorative stamps and sample a wide selection of authentic Asian cuisine.

Parade and performances

Saturday forms the heart of the celebrations, running from 10:00 to 23:00.

In the morning, the official parade will set off from the Levante beach promenade and make its way to the Plaza de SS MM Reyes de España.

Across the day, performers will take to the stage for around six hours of traditional dance, music and visual displays.

Sunday closes the festivities

Events continue on Sunday from 10:00 to 19:00, concluding with the official closing ceremony.

Event organiser, Veline Ong, thanked Benidorm Council for its support, noting that the city is hosting the celebration for the first time. She also thanked sponsors and partners and invited everyone to join the festivities.

Ong added that organisers will produce a promotional video for the Chinese market to encourage more visitors to discover Benidorm.
