Almoradí has unveiled the 11th National Artichoke Congress, one of the Vega Baja’s leading food events. The festival, recognised as a Festival of Tourist Interest of the Valencian Community, will take place on 7 and 8 March.
Food takes centre stage
Over the weekend, organisers will set up 25 tents on the Plaza de la Constitución.
Most will focus on gastronomy, while others will showcase local produce, crafts, wines, beers and preserves, reflecting the Vega Baja’s agricultural wealth.
More than 14 establishments will serve artichoke dishes directly in the plaza. Many other bars and restaurants across the town will also join the celebrations.
Almoradí Artichoke Festival: Traditions
The programme brings back several favourite attractions, including the parade of the Goddess Cynara, the free public artichoke roast and the traditional weekly market, which holds Festival of Provincial Tourist Interest status.
Live music, children’s workshops and cookery demonstrations led by guest chefs and catering students will also feature throughout the weekend.
“Tapas with Artichokes” will return as well, offering a tapa and a beer for €5.
Visitors from across Spain
The annual motorhome gathering organised by ACAV at Kurruncho Park highlights the congress’s popularity. All 140 pitches sold out weeks in advance.
A cornerstone of the local economy
The artichoke remains one of the Vega Baja’s key crops.
For the 2025 to 2026 season, farmers have increased the cultivated area by 10 per cent to around 2,500 hectares. Over the past decade, the crop has expanded by more than 1,000 hectares.
Producers expect to harvest about 27,000 tonnes this season, although spring weather will determine the final total.
By blending local food, culture and tradition, the National Artichoke Congress continues to grow.
