Dust off your bike and pump up those tyres, the ever-popular Amb Bici per la Via Verda (Alcoy’s Greenway Bike Ride) is back on Sunday, 28 September.

Alcoy’s Greenway Bike Ride isn’t a race. There are no medals involved, it is just a gentle pedal along the old Alcoy–Gandia railway line, better known locally as the Xitxarra.

The route sets off from Alcoy in the morning and makes its way through Cocentaina (around 09:00), Muro (09:30-ish), Gaianes, Beniarrés and Lorcha, before coming to a stop in Villalonga.

For €4.30, riders get insurance, first aid cover, a bit of bike-fixing help if your chain throws a tantrum, a well-earned snack in Beniarrés, and even a bus back from Villalonga to Alcoy (with pick-up points in Muro and Cocentaina).

There are a couple of rules: you will need to be at least 12 years old to take part, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Sign-ups close on Wednesday, 24 September. You can register at Alcoy’s Centre d’Esports at Carrer Juan Gil Albert, 6, 03804 Alcoi, in person.

Alternatively, email: ajualcoi@alcoi.org or call (+34) 965 537 109.

Enjoy the ride and note that Lycra is optional, not mandatory!
