AEMET has placed the Costa Blanca under a yellow weather alert today due to strong winds.

Forecasters warn that northeasterly gusts could reach up to 70 km/h, especially along the coast and in areas sheltered by mountains.

Meteorologists expect the alert to remain in place until at least Wednesday, 4 March. After that, the wind will likely give way to a spell of rain and possible storms that could continue into the weekend.

Yellow alert: Changing temperatures

Cloud cover will dominate throughout the day, and dust will linger in the air.

According to AEMET, southern Valencia and northern Costa Blanca can expect light but steady rain. Scattered showers may also affect other parts of the Valencian Community, although the far south of Alicante province is less likely to see rainfall.

Minimum temperatures will rise noticeably in coastal and pre-coastal areas. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures will fall in northern Costa Blanca, increase in the south and remain largely unchanged elsewhere.

Events begin to be cancelled

Given the unsettled forecast, some municipalities have already begun reviewing outdoor plans for 8 March, International Women’s Day.

Dénia was among the first to act. The town has cancelled the commemorative event scheduled for Friday 6 March due to the expected rain.

The town will now hold the event in Dénia on 13 March at 12:00 in Plaza del Consell, provided weather conditions improve.

Officials in other towns across the Costa Blanca province will make further decisions as the storm develops in the coming hours.
