On Sunday, 19 October, the streets of Petrer and Elda will once again turn pink for AcMavi’s solidarity march on World Breast Cancer Day.
The event, called Every Step Counts, will start at 11:00 from the Clara Campoamor Municipal Centre in Petrer. The route covers just over three kilometres and will pass through both towns.
Councillor, Juana Ochoa, described AcMavi as “a helping hand for any breast cancer patient in the region.” She noted that 36,000 new cases have already been diagnosed this year in Spain. This makes it the most common cancer among women. She also stressed the importance of prevention and early diagnosis.
AcMavi charity president José Coloma reminded everyone that one in every eight women will face breast cancer at some point. He added that survival rates are now around 85%, a figure that gives hope to many.

Supporters can buy a solidarity pack for €5, which includes a T-shirt, backpack, and neck warmer. They can be purchased at the Clara Campoamor Centre on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 17:00 to 19:00. At Hispanitas in the Salinetas Industrial Estate, or at Óptica Blanco y Negro in Elda.
Packs will also be available on the day of the march from 09:30.
Giménez explained that the Clara Campoamor Centre is “the heart of AcMavi,” where members meet, plan, and prepare their activities. She added that all funds raised go towards helping patients with needs not covered by public healthcare and supporting research.
Two days before the march, on Friday, 17 October at 19:30, AcMavi will present the 11th charity Calendar at the Teatro Cervantes in Petrer. Entry is free.
Miriam said the calendar aims to show the reality of breast cancer and to remind people that, thankfully, survival rates are high.
