Calling all dog lovers in the Vega Baja, do you fancy heading over to Orihuela to support ASOKA’s solidarity walk?
ASOKA Orihuela, the animal welfare association, is organising a new edition of its popular “Solidarity Walks” on Sunday 17 May.
The event gives residents the chance to spend time with shelter dogs while supporting the refuge and its adoption work.
Walks, wagging tails and potential forever homes
The activity takes place at the Centro de Protección Animal in San Bartolomé, on Camino Lo Arques s/n.
For a €5 donation, visitors can join organised walks with dogs currently living at the shelter.
All proceeds will go directly towards caring for the animals.
The event also encourages adoption, fostering and sponsorship. Visitors can interact with the dogs in a more relaxed environment outside their kennels.
ASOKA says the walks help the animals socialise while giving potential adopters a better chance to get to know them.
Sessions in Spanish and English
Organisers have scheduled several sessions throughout the morning to make the event accessible to more people.
Spanish-language walks will take place at 10:15 and 11:30. An English-language session is planned for 11:00.
Places must be booked in advance by email at asokaorihuela@gmail.com.
More information about the association and its activities is available through ASOKA Orihuela Facebook and ASOKA Orihuela Instagram.
Pet food collection campaign
Meanwhile, the nearby town of Benejúzar has also launched a pet food collection campaign running until 21 May.
People can drop donations at the PMD Benejúzar Residence. The supplies will then go directly to ASOKA Orihuela to help care for rescued animals.
