Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact the airport insists on breaking record after record!
The Costa Blanca gateway handled almost 1.92 million passengers in April, continuing a strong run of growth as the airport moves closer to fresh records ahead of the summer season.
According to figures released by Aena, the airport registered 1,921,861 passengers during April. That represents an increase of 10.9% compared with the same month last year.
International tourism keeps climbing
International travel once again drove most of the airport’s growth.
International flights brought 1,697,090 passengers through Alicante-Elche in April, up 12.3% year-on-year.
Domestic traffic also increased, although more slowly. The airport handled 222,973 domestic passengers, a rise of 1.3%.
The United Kingdom remained the airport’s largest market by a wide margin. In April alone, 637,030 British passengers travelled through the terminal.
Germany followed with 117,359 passengers, while the Netherlands came close behind with 117,241. Poland and Belgium completed the top five international markets, both exceeding 100,000 passengers.
Alicante Airport breaking records
Aircraft movements rose at the same pace as passenger numbers.
During April, the airport handled 12,074 flights, also up 10.9% compared with April 2025.
Between January and April, Alicante-Elche Airport welcomed 5.86 million passengers in total. That marks growth of 8% compared with the same period last year.
Flight operations also climbed by 7.7% during the first four months of 2026, reaching 37,694 aircraft movements.
One of Spain’s busiest international airports
The latest figures reinforce Alicante-Elche’s position as one of Spain’s leading airports for international tourism, especially for holidaymakers and foreign residents travelling to the Costa Blanca.
Across the wider Aena network, which includes airports in Spain, London Luton and Brazil, passenger traffic reached 33.4 million travellers in April.
Aena also noted that some of the increase earlier this year came from travellers switching from rail to air transport after the major train accident on 18 January.
