Running shoes, community spirit and a very good cause. Orihuela is getting ready to lace up and run in support of children fighting cancer.

The CIPFP El Palmeral will host its first Solidarity Run on Friday 15 May. The event is to raise funds for the Fundación Aladina, a charity that supports children and teenagers with cancer and their families.

Sport and solidarity together

The event will take place at the El Palmeral Municipal Sports Centre from midday and will include two options:

  • 5-kilometre charity run
  • 2-kilometre solidarity walk for those who prefer a more relaxed pace

Organisers say the aim is not just to promote sport, but also to raise awareness and support research and programmes dedicated to childhood cancer.

How the day will work

Participants can collect race numbers between 10:30 and 11:45 before taking part in a group warm-up session.

The 5km race begins at midday, followed by the 2km solidarity walk at 12:30.

Afterwards, there will be refreshments, medal presentations and prize draws.

Registration is free, although organisers are encouraging voluntary donations to support the charity. Anyone who has not signed up in advance will still be able to register on the day.

There will also be a donation box available for people who wish to contribute even if they cannot attend.

Orihuela’s councillor for Sports, Víctor Sigüenza, praised the initiative and encouraged residents across the Vega Baja to take part in what he described as an event that “goes far beyond competition”.

Supporting children with cancer

All donations raised during the event will go directly to Fundación Aladina, which has spent more than 20 years helping young cancer patients through emotional support, psychological care, hospital improvements and research grants for specialist oncology training.
