Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport enjoyed another record-breaking month in May, handling more than two million passengers as demand for Costa Blanca flights continued to surge.

According to figures released by airport operator Aena, the airport welcomed 2,070,599 passengers during the month, an increase of 11.9% compared with May 2025.

The figures make May one of the busiest months in the airport’s history and continue the strong growth seen throughout 2026.

International passengers drive growth

International traffic remained the main driver behind the airport’s success.

During May, 1,827,523 passengers travelled on international flights, representing a year-on-year increase of 12.5%.

Domestic traffic also grew, reaching 241,703 passengers, up 7.6% compared with the same month last year.

UK remains the largest market

The United Kingdom continued to dominate passenger numbers at Alicante Airport.

Almost 692,000 passengers travelled between the UK and the Costa Blanca during May.

The Netherlands and Germany followed, each accounting for around 125,000 passengers, while Poland recorded approximately 115,000 travellers.

The figures underline the continued strength of Alicante’s traditional European markets while highlighting the growing importance of Poland as a source of visitors.

More than 13,000 flights

Aircraft movements also increased during the month.

A total of 13,131 flights were handled at Alicante Airport in May, representing a 12.3% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

Eight million passengers in five months

The airport has now handled 7,937,610 passengers between January and May 2026.

That represents growth of 9% compared with the first five months of last year.

During the same period, Alicante Airport recorded 50,825 flight movements, an increase of 8.9%.

With passenger numbers continuing to rise and several new routes launching this summer, the airport appears on course for another record-breaking year.
