The Costa Blanca is once again making headlines as one of Spain’s top coastal destinations after National Geographic names several of Alicante Province’s best beaches and coves.
From hidden turquoise bays to vast stretches of golden sand, the list showcases the incredible variety of landscapes found along the Costa Blanca coastline.
Hidden coves of the northern Costa Blanca
Among the standout locations is Cala del Portitxol in Jávea, one of the most photographed spots on the Costa Blanca. Surrounded by cliffs and facing the small Portitxol Island, the cove is famous for its crystal-clear waters and picture-perfect setting.
National Geographic also highlights Cala de la Granadella in Jávea, regularly considered one of the most beautiful coves in Spain. Surrounded by pine-covered cliffs, its transparent waters make it a favourite destination for snorkelling and diving enthusiasts.
A little further along the coast, Cala del Moraig in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell earns a place on the list thanks to its dramatic setting, turquoise waters and impressive sea caves.
Meanwhile, Cala de Pinets in Benissa offers a quieter and more natural experience. Combining rocky sections with small sandy areas, it remains one of the Costa Blanca’s lesser-known gems.
Crystal-clear waters and spectacular scenery
National Geographic also selected Cala del Mascarat in Altea, where steep cliffs meet clear Mediterranean waters rich in marine life.
The cove’s wild appearance and excellent snorkelling conditions continue to attract visitors looking to escape busier beaches.
Family favourites make the list
Not all of the beaches selected are secluded coves.
Playa del Albir in L’Alfàs del Pi was recognised for its clean waters, peaceful atmosphere and stunning views towards the Peñón de Ifach and Serra Gelada Natural Park.
Further south, Playa de Muchavista in El Campello earned praise for its family-friendly atmosphere, long promenade and wide choice of restaurants and leisure facilities.
Alicante’s most famous beach
Completing the list is Playa de San Juan in Alicante, one of the province’s most iconic beaches.
With seven kilometres of golden sand, excellent facilities and a Blue Flag award once again this year, it remains one of the most popular beaches on the Costa Blanca for both residents and visitors.
