The Guardamar Market, also known as the Lemon Tree Market or El Campico Market, takes place every Sunday from 08:00 until 15:00.
It is held just outside Guardamar, on the Camino del Raso, and is one of the biggest and most popular markets in the Alicante region. There are hundreds of stalls and a lively, international feel.
There is a wide range of things on offer. You will find all sorts of clothing, shoes and accessories, including dresses, sandals, t-shirts, handbags, sunglasses and costume jewellery. Some items are brand new, while others are cheaper copies or practical basics. Clothes are especially popular, along with homewear, underwear and all kinds of small accessories.
Towards the back of the market, there is a section for fruit and vegetables. Prices vary, so it’s worth looking around before buying. Alongside fresh produce, you’ll see stalls selling cheese, cold meats, pickles, olives, spices, tinned goods and baked treats. The quality is generally good, although it can differ slightly from one stall to the next.
Many people also come for the wide variety of household goods and second-hand items. Stalls sell everything from kitchen tools and cleaning products to toys, cosmetics, decorations, phone accessories and handmade crafts. If you take your time to browse, you may even find some unusual or vintage pieces.
One of the market’s main attractions is the food area. Here, you will find bars and stalls serving all sorts of meals and snacks. There’s a mix of Belgian, English, Italian and Spanish food, including paella, grilled sardines, tapas, burgers, sandwiches, roast chicken and some vegetarian dishes. There is often live music, which adds to the fun atmosphere.
The market is perfect for a relaxed Sunday out. It is busy, colourful and has a friendly, international crowd. It is a good idea to go early in the day, as it can get very crowded and hot later on.
Where is Guardamar Market?
You will find the market in a rural spot between Guardamar del Segura and the El Raso urbanisation. It’s easy to get to by car, using the CV-895 road, and there are signs showing the way once you get close.
There is free parking on nearby wasteland, but they aren’t paved and tends to fill up between 9:30 and 11:00.
There is no bus stop directly at the market, but some intercity routes go to El Raso or central Guardamar. From there, you can take a taxi the rest of the way.
If you plan to visit, it’s wise to bring cash, as most stalls don’t accept cards.
