Shopping at Calpe’s Municipal Market will come with a refreshing bonus this summer as the popular “Fresh and Tasty” promotion returns after a successful debut last year.
On Thursdays July 23 and 30, and August 6, 13, 20 and 27, shoppers who spend more than €10 at any market stall will receive a free smoothie or a traditional horchata with fartons.
Customers only need to show their receipt at the collection point in the centre of the market to claim their free drink.
Summer promotion encourages local shopping
Calpe Town Hall’s Markets Department organised the initiative to encourage residents and visitors to shop locally during the summer months. The campaign also rewards regular customers who continue to support the Municipal Market.
Market stall L’Avío will once again provide the refreshments throughout the promotion.
The event also gives shoppers a chance to discover how easy it is to make a healthy smoothie at home using fresh fruit from the market stalls.
Easy summer smoothie recipe
A simple summer smoothie takes only a few minutes to prepare. Blend a ripe banana, a handful of strawberries, a handful of blueberries, around 150ml of natural yoghurt or milk and a few ice cubes until smooth.
Add a teaspoon of local honey if you prefer a sweeter taste. A squeeze of fresh orange juice will give the drink a more citrus flavour.
Fresh market fruit makes the difference
Traditional markets offer another advantage because shoppers can often buy fruit at peak ripeness. This makes it ideal for smoothies without the need to add sugar.
Peaches, nectarines, melon and watermelon are also in season during the summer. You can mix them with mint or fresh lemon juice to create different combinations.
