After days of watching rain forecasts and weather warnings, Alicante is heading into a very different weekend.

The unsettled spell has given way to sunshine and rising temperatures, with the mercury expected to reach around 28°C on Sunday 11 October.

AEMET’s latest forecast shows no rain expected in Alicante city throughout the weekend, with temperatures well above the levels residents experienced during the recent wet weather.

Sunshine returns for the weekend

Saturday 10 October should remain largely clear or feature only high cloud, with temperatures reaching around 26°C.

There is currently a 0% probability of rain in Alicante city for the rest of Saturday.

Sunday looks warmer still.

AEMET expects a minimum of around 16°C and a maximum of 28°C, with sunshine or only light cloud for much of the day. The hourly forecast puts temperatures at around 27°C during the afternoon.

The warmer conditions will continue into Monday 12 October, Spain’s National Day, when Alicante could again reach 28°C.

A sharp change after the unsettled weather

The rapid improvement is the result of a change in the weather pattern affecting the province.

After the recent instability, forecasters expect clearer skies and warmer daytime temperatures as conditions settle.

The change will feel particularly noticeable during the afternoon, although October nights remain considerably cooler.

AEMET currently expects overnight temperatures of around 16°C on Sunday, rising to around 18°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Could the rain return?

Possibly, but not immediately.

AEMET currently gives Alicante city a 0% chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday and only a small possibility during part of Monday.

Conditions become less certain later in the week.

The current seven-day forecast shows a 40% probability of precipitation during part of Tuesday, rising to 65% on Wednesday. AEMET also forecasts periods of cloud with light rain from Wednesday onwards.

Forecasts several days ahead can change, however, particularly during an unsettled autumn period.

For now, Alicante is looking at a dry and increasingly warm weekend, with Sunday providing the biggest turnaround.

After the umbrellas, it could be time to find the sunglasses again.
