Benidorm has officially launched its summer beach programme, with more than 200 workers deployed across the city’s coastline to support what is expected to be another busy tourist season.

The enhanced service began on 1 June and will remain in place until 30 September, bringing additional lifeguards, cleaning teams, accessibility staff and beach facilities to Levante, Poniente and other popular stretches of coastline.

While Benidorm provides beach services throughout the year, the city significantly increases resources during the summer months to cope with the sharp rise in visitor numbers.

Lifeguard cover extended for summer

One of the biggest seasonal upgrades involves beach safety and lifeguard services.

During June, lifeguards will operate from 10:00 to 19:00. From July through to September, the service will run from 09:00 until 20:00.

A total of 44 professionals will form part of the daily rescue and first-aid operation.

The team includes lifeguards stationed across Playa de Levante, Playa de Poniente, Mal Pas, Cala del Ti Ximo and Cala de l’Almadrava, along with nurses, ambulance crews, rescue boat staff and beach coordinators.

More support for accessible beaches

Benidorm has also expanded services for visitors with reduced mobility.

The accessible beach points at Levante, Parque de Elche and La Cala will now operate daily from 09:30 to 18:30.

Each location will have specialist staff available to help visitors access the water safely and enjoy the beach facilities.

Cleaning teams step up operations

Beach cleaning services have also moved into summer mode.

At least 24 workers will operate in two daily shifts. The first runs from 06:00 to 12:30, while the second takes place between 20:30 and 02:30.

The city will also continue using tractors and mechanical beach-cleaning equipment during the night to maintain sand quality and cleanliness.

Meanwhile, the pelican cleaning boat will once again patrol the coastline throughout the summer season, removing floating debris from the sea.

Biblioplayas return to full service

Benidorm’s popular Biblioplayas (Beach Libraries) will also increase activity during the summer.

Alongside the existing service on Levante Beach, two additional facilities on Poniente Beach are now open.

All three sites will welcome visitors from Tuesday to Sunday between 11:00 and 16:00.

The facilities allow beachgoers to borrow books and enjoy reading by the sea during their visit.

Floating platforms back from mid-June

The city’s free floating platforms will return to Levante and Poniente beaches from 15 June until 1 September.

The platforms will operate daily between 11:00 and 19:00 and will have dedicated staff overseeing safety and visitor access.

These attractions remain particularly popular with families and younger visitors during the summer months.

Beaches remain Benidorm’s biggest attraction

Mayor Toni Pérez said the city’s beaches continue to be its most important tourism asset and justified the significant investment required to maintain services during the busy season.

He said the council remains committed to providing high-quality facilities that match the expectations of the millions of visitors who choose Benidorm each year.

The city’s beaches regularly receive national and international quality awards and continue to rank among the most recognised and visited stretches of coastline in Spain.

With summer now underway, Benidorm’s full beach operation is once again in place to support residents, tourists and day visitors throughout the season.
