Gastronomy at its finest. Almoradí is once again preparing to revolve around the vegetable that has become its culinary signature: the Vega Baja artichoke.
From 9 to 13 March, five long-established family restaurants will join forces for the town’s Gastronomic Showcase. This is a tradition that has been delighting diners since 2002 and is now the oldest of its kind in the comarca.
Five kitchens, one star ingredient
This year’s participating restaurants are:
- Restaurante Silvino
- Restaurante Angelín
- Los Infantes
- Restaurante El Buey
- Restaurante El Cruce
Each day, one restaurant will host a special menu where the artichoke appears in multiple forms: as starter, stew, cream, sauce and even dessert, paired with game meats, seafood, fish and carefully reworked traditional recipes.
The week opens with Silvino’s combinations of artichokes with pickled tuna, partridge and slow-cooked beans, finishing with oven-roasted kid goat.
Classic pairings
Angelín follows with seafood and classic pairings, while Los Infantes takes a charcoal-grill approach midweek, complete with artichoke cream and traditional torrija for dessert.
El Buey steps in with truffled pâté, bluefin tuna with butter beans and Iberian pork cheek in PX wine sauce, before El Cruce closes the showcase with foie gras cream, cod with artichoke and Parmesan, and a pistachio mousse finale.
What makes the showcase remarkable is not just the menus, but the loyalty it inspires. Many diners book almost a year in advance, and most restaurants extend the artichoke menus throughout March so nobody misses out.
The Almoradí artichoke
The Almoradí artichoke is more than food, it is a symbol of identity
For Mayor María Gómez, the event perfectly reflects what Almoradí has become known for across the Vega Baja: “Anyone who comes to Almoradí comes to eat.”
