With 2025 drawing to a close, Alicante is preparing to pass on the culinary spotlight. The honour of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy will soon move south.
In 2026 the baton will be handed to Jerez de la Frontera who takes the title under the slogan: Come, Bebe y Ama Jerez (Eat, Drink, Love Jerez).
Jerez has long been known for tradition, craftsmanship, and flavour. The announcement highlights this rich identity. Local wineries, restaurants, producers, and its iconic tabancos worked together to earn the recognition. Jerez now stands out for its strong gastronomic culture. It is built around world-famous sherry wines and deeply rooted Andalusian cuisine.
Spanish Capital of Gastronomy: Full calendar
Visitors can expect a full calendar of celebrations throughout 2026. The city will host 54 events focused on wine, tapas, culture, and regional heritage. Tasting sessions, food festivals, and themed tours will fill the year. These events will reinforce Jerez’s reputation as one of Spain’s most authentic dining destinations.
Created in 2012, the Spanish Capital of Gastronomy award highlights cities with outstanding food and drink. Past winners include Logroño and Burgos. Each year, the title brings a surge of interest and tourism.
Jerez is now the second city in the Province of Cádiz to receive the accolade. Preparations are already underway. The city is ready to welcome visitors from Spain and beyond. Guests are invited to experience the flavours, traditions, and warm hospitality that shape its culinary identity.
