Spain is home to some of the oldest and most amazing cave paintings in Europe
The most famous of these caves is Altamira, located at Santillana del Mar in Cantabria, often called the “Sistine Chapel of prehistoric art.”
Deep inside, you’ll find drawings of bison, deer, and horses painted with natural colours. What’s really clever is how the artists used the shape of the cave walls to make the animals look almost alive.
These paintings were probably not made just for fun. Experts think they might have been part of rituals or ways to communicate stories.
For modern visitors, it’s pretty special to see such ancient creativity. It’s a reminder that humans have always loved to express themselves, even if their tools were a bit more basic than ours today.
