World Paella Day 2025 is bubbling away nicely, and is nearly ready to be served.
On 20 September, Spain’s most famous rice dish takes the spotlight once again, and where better than by the sea in Valencia?
This year’s fiesta will take place at Tinglado nº2 in La Marina de València.
World Paella Day Cup
The World Paella Day Cup will be up for grabs. Chefs from across the globe will battle it out for the crown of best paella maker.
The date isn’t random, either. Late September coincides with the rice harvest and the tail end of summer, making it the perfect excuse to celebrate paella.
Traditionally, the dish is cooked in a wide, shallow pan. The Valencian version, with rabbit, chicken and green beans, is still considered the classic.
Of course, over time, variations have cropped up, from seafood-packed pans to more experimental combinations. And yes, some braver chefs still sneak in chorizo, though that particular choice is known to spark lively debates in Spain!
Valencia will be celebrating the festivities with cooking demonstrations, tastings and live music. But the celebration stretches far beyond Spain. Cities like Madrid, Barcelona and even New York join in, with restaurants offering special menus and events dedicated to this tasty dish.
