Around the world with the Alicante TRAM. The world is a big place, so travelling around it more than 80 times in a single year is no small achievement.
Over the course of the year, trains and trams operated by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) clocked up an impressive 3.2 million kilometres across Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 9. Put another way, that’s the equivalent of 81 trips around the world, all within the province of Alicante.
A busy year on the tracks
During 2025, the Alicante TRAM ran 170,722 services, averaging 467 journeys a day. When combined with Metrovalencia, the figure rises to 1,903 daily services, underlining the growing importance of the regional rail network.
Within Alicante itself, Line 2, which links Luceros with Sant Vicent del Raspeig, was the busiest, with 49,908 tram journeys throughout the year. Close behind was Line 3 (Luceros – El Campello) with 29,379 services, followed by Line 1, connecting Alicante city centre with Benidorm, which recorded 28,292 journeys.
The remaining lines also saw strong activity. Line 4, running from Luceros to Playa de San Juan, operated 25,847 services, while Line 5, linking Playa de San Juan with Porta del Mar by El Postiguet beach, registered 23,054 journeys. Meanwhile, Line 9, connecting Benidorm and Dénia, recorded 14,242 services.
Distance tells a different story
While Line 2 was the busiest in terms of services, the longest distances were covered elsewhere. Line 1, between Alicante and Benidorm, topped the list with 1.22 million kilometres travelled.
Next came Line 9 between Benidorm and Dénia, with 713,852 kilometres, followed by the Alicante – Sant Vicent route at 413,039 kilometres. Line 3 matched that distance, while Line 4 totalled 248,906 kilometres and Line 5 reached 203,001 kilometres.
Alicante TRAM: A strong finish to the year
Altogether, FGV trains and trams in Alicante covered 3,246,926 kilometres in 2025, slightly surpassing the previous year’s total. In 2024, the network travelled the equivalent of 77 trips around the globe. In 2025, it pushed that figure to 81, marking another milestone for public transport on the Costa Blanca.
