Alicante-Elche Airport is on track for its best year ever.
August broke yet another record, with just over 2.09 million passengers passing through, nearly 7% more than August 2024. It’s only a whisker behind July’s all-time high of 2.106 million.
From January to August, more than 13.4 million travellers have flown in or out, up 9.1% on last year. Flight movements are also up, 83,833 so far, 9% more than 2024.
The surge is thanks to foreign holidaymakers. International passengers made up the bulk, climbing almost 10% to 1.86 million in August. Spanish domestic travel, on the other hand, slumped 11%, with 240,146 opting to stay local.
The Brits still top the charts, with nearly 715,000 making Alicante their getaway of choice. After that come Germany (131,894), the Netherlands (113,800), France (108,473) and Belgium (97,816).
Airlines have also added more routes and flights. In August alone, the airport logged 12,593 operations, representing a 5.4% increase over the same month last year.
