L’Alfàs del Pi Town Council is promoting a series of workshops and activities for the over-65s, focused on active ageing.

Psychologist Carl Jung is famous for saying, “Life really does begin at 40.  Up until then, you are just doing research.” If that’s true, then being over 65 is really just like being 25. So, what better way to reinforce that than with a healthier lifestyle?

Workshops start from 15 September

It seems that L’Alfàs del Pi Town Council are in agreement, as this wonderfully age-friendly town will be hosting a series of healthy workshops and activities. What’s more, by registering, attendance is completely free of charge.

From Monday, 15 September, exercises aimed at stimulating memory, creativity and motor skills will run four days a week.  These will be held at the multipurpose room of the Pensioner’s Home on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays between 1000 and 1200 hours.  Then, on Thursdays at the Platja Albir Social Centre between 1100 and 1230 hours.

Local councillor, Marisa Cortés said: “We have been working with José Luis León for many years on motor skills, cognitive stimulation, stretching and breathing exercises, even musical workshops and crafts, and we are very happy with the results.”

In addition to the various workshops, those who enjoy dancing are in for a treat.  From October, social dance and inclusive dance classes will be held in collaboration with the Costa Blanca Balla Club.  These will take place at the Pensioner’s Home and in the gym of the CEIP Santísimo Cristo. Not only is dancing fun, it offers an excellent way to give the heart a workout, strengthen muscles and improve balance.

In putting on these workshops, L’Alfàs is once more demonstrating why it has been a member of the Network of Age-Friendly Cities since 2017.  This is an initiative promoted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in which 37 countries participate and involves over 500 towns and cities.

To register for the workshops, call the Social Welfare department 965 807 328 / 658 970 216.
