Benferri is counting down to one of the biggest events in its calendar as the town prepares to celebrate its annual fiestas from 7 to 17 August.
For 11 days, the streets will come alive with live music, family entertainment, traditional ceremonies and plenty of opportunities to join in the celebrations.
The festivities honour San Jerónimo and the Virgen del Rosario, but there’s something happening every day, from concerts and children’s shows to colourful parades and late-night parties.
The celebrations get underway
The fiestas begin on Friday, 7 August, with the traditional collection of the
Queens and Peñas Festeras, accompanied by the Unión Musical Benferri.
Later in the evening, the town will crown its Fiesta Queens and officially invest this year’s standard bearers before DJ Julito kicks off the first party of the celebrations.
Saturday promises one of the busiest days of the programme.
The popular Chupinazo returns at midday, followed by a giant paella for everyone to enjoy.
The evening continues with a Melendi tribute concert before DJs keep the party going into the early hours.
Entertainment for all ages
Families are well catered for throughout the week, with children’s theatre taking centre stage.
Young audiences can enjoy performances of La fantástica fábrica de chocolate and Robin Hood, while another evening features a Tu cara me suena style entertainment show.
On 12 August, children can enjoy inflatables and face painting before the celebrations continue with street bands, a night-time parade and another open-air disco.
Music lovers also have plenty to look forward to, including a live performance by Stolen on 13 August.
Tradition takes centre stage
As the weekend approaches, attention turns back to the town’s traditions.
On
14 August, residents will take part in the floral offering to San Jerónimo and the Virgen del Rosario before the Makro Disco Kraken “IA Tour – La Rebelión de las Máquinas” brings a spectacular party atmosphere to the evening.
The colourful Grand Parade on 15 August is one of the highlights of the fiestas, filling the streets with costumes, music and entertainment before the band Salitre takes to the stage later that night.
Sunday, 16 August, focuses on the religious heart of the celebrations, with Mass and the traditional procession in honour of the town’s patron saints.
A fireworks display will light up the night before Top Music rounds off the evening with a live performance in the town square.
The fiestas conclude on 17 August with a Mass and Rosary in memory of the town’s departed residents.
