Visitors to Denia can discover the town’s rich history this summer through a programme of free guided tours at Denia Castle and several of its museums.
The programme runs until 15 September. It includes free tours of the Archaeological Museum, Ethnological Museum, Toy Museum and Sea Museum, alongside guided visits to Denia Castle.
A different museum every day
The museums offer free guided tours at 11.30 every day except Sunday, with each day focusing on a different part of Denia’s heritage.
On Mondays, the Ethnological Museum presents The Long Journey of the Raisin, which explores the history of Denia’s famous raisin trade.
On Tuesdays, visitors can explore the Sea Museum through the exhibition From Fear and Silk.
Meanwhile, Wednesdays focus on the Toy Museum, where guides explain how Denia built a thriving toy industry that helped shape the town’s economy.
Finally, on Thursdays and Saturdays, the Archaeological Museum takes visitors on a journey from Roman Dianium through the Islamic period to modern-day Denia.
As places are limited, visitors should book in advance by calling 96 642 02 60 between 10.00 and 13.00.
Discover Denia Castle
Denia Castle also offers guided tours throughout the summer.
The main visit, Discover the Castle and Interpretation Centre, explores the fortress’s history before finishing at the Denia, Ciudad Vigía Interpretation Centre. The standard castle admission ticket includes the tour.
Guides lead tours from Tuesday to Saturday at 11.00, while Wednesday and Friday also feature evening visits at 20.00.
In addition, English-language tours run from Tuesday to Friday at 10.30.
Visit the castle after dark
From 1 July to 15 September, visitors can also enjoy Denia Castle during extended evening opening hours.
The castle welcomes visitors every day from 20.00 until midnight, while the Interpretation Centre remains open until 22.00.
As a result, visitors can experience one of the Costa Blanca’s most iconic landmarks in the cooler evening temperatures.
See recent archaeological discoveries
Another guided tour highlights the recently restored Portal dels Socors and Verger Baix.
During the restoration, archaeologists uncovered the castle’s original Islamic entrance, which builders later modified in the 16th century before burying it during the Peninsular War. The team also discovered a small Christian oratory dating back to the mid-1500s.
These specialist tours take place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 20.00. Visitors should book in advance by calling 96 642 02 60.
