Now that the summer heatwave is well and truly here, Spain’s daily routines shift dramatically.
Longer days and soaring temperatures reshape everything from mealtimes to shopping habits, and new figures reveal just how much the season influences consumer behaviour.
According to a recent IPSOS study for Just Eat, Spaniards are increasingly opting for lighter meals, cooler treats, and home delivery.
As the mercury rises, so does the preference for cold, no-fuss meals:
- Nearly 60% of Spaniards say they favour cold dishes that don’t require cooking, like salads.
- More than 40% admit to cooking less and ordering delivery more often in the summer.
- 26.9% say they dine out more frequently during the season.
The heat also seems to encourage healthier choices. 36.5% of those surveyed said they eat more fruits and vegetables in summer.
Heatwave habits: Ice cream tops the charts
Ice cream remains the undisputed star of the summer diet in Spain:
- A massive 85% of respondents include ice cream in their regular summer eating habits.
- 44% drink more soft drinks, while 37% turn to fruit as a go-to snack.
- 33% still prefer sweets, and only 14% opt for savoury snacks as their seasonal indulgence.
