Forget dainty pastries, on the Costa Blanca donuts the size of lorry wheels are stealing the show.

Big Rum’s enormous, homemade creations are all over social media, winning fans for their sheer size, variety of flavours, and very down-to-earth price tag: just €3.40 each.

The concept is simple but clever: take a familiar snack that’s been a bit neglected in recent years, super-size it, give it over 20 possible toppings, and watch the internet do the rest. From pistachio cream and Nutella to biscuits in different flavours, and even a few savoury additions like Doritos, there is something for everyone.

Big Rum’s runs two shops in Petrer and Benidorm, but the buzz reaches far beyond the local area thanks to videos from customers proudly showing off their sugar-laden trophies. Each donut is made by hand in their own workshop, with dough as light and fluffy as their other big hit: cinnamon rolls.

For many visitors, the price is as surprising as the size. “Given the quality and the portion, it’s an absolute bargain,” said content creator Zapi News, who shared his verdict online. He noted the shops are fairly plain inside, designed mainly for takeaway, but the donuts themselves are the real draw.

Not every review is perfect, though. Zapi found the dough a little too fried for his taste and thought the plain donut needed a topping or filling to bring it to life. The cinnamon roll, on the other hand, was a complete hit: “Fluffy, soft, melts in your mouth, definitely a 10 out of 10,” he said.
