Art lovers have something new to look forward to in Santa Pola, where a major contemporary exhibition is about to open its doors.

From 27 March, the Museo del Mar de Santa Pola will host [Iter spirituale]. Dos colecciones, a thought-provoking showcase exploring spirituality through modern art.

A meeting of two collections

The exhibition brings together works from the Museu d’Art Contemporani Vicente Aguilera Cerni de Vilafamés (MACVAC) and the Galería Espai Nivi collection.

As a result, visitors can explore a carefully curated selection of pieces that reflect spirituality both as a personal journey and a shared human experience.

The exhibition opens on Thursday 27 March at 19:00 and gathers a diverse mix of national and international artists under one roof.

Big names and diverse styles

Among the highlights are works by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Marc Chagall, Antoni Tàpies, Eduardo Chillida, Takashi Murakami and Miquel Barceló.

Together, their work spans generations and styles, offering a wide lens on how spirituality can be expressed through art. In addition, many pieces have rarely been exhibited, making this a particularly special opportunity.

A journey through four themes

To guide visitors, the exhibition is organised into four main themes:

  • Body
  • Rituals
  • Landscapes of the soul
  • Transcendence

Step by step, these sections move from the physical and personal towards more abstract and reflective ideas. At the same time, visitors are encouraged to explore freely and interpret the works in their own way.

More than just an exhibition

Beyond the artworks themselves, the project also places strong emphasis on education and accessibility.

It aims to bring contemporary art closer to a wider audience, including schools, residents and visitors. Furthermore, it highlights collaboration between institutions, collectors and artists, reinforcing the role of the Museo del Mar de Santa Pola as a cultural hub.

When to visit

The exhibition runs from 27 March until 18 May in Santa Pola.

Opening hours are:

  • Tuesday to Saturday: 10:00 to 13:00 and 16:00 to 19:00
  • Sunday: 11:00 to 13:30
