According to Turespaña, Spain has managed to outshine its Mediterranean neighbours by offering more than beach chairs and souvenir magnets. The country has turned its attention to authentic experiences, improved air travel links, and making tourism less of a strain on the planet.
Demand has been climbing across the board, with visitors flooding in from the UK, Germany, the US, and even China. More tourists are spending more, staying longer, and flying in on better-connected routes.
The report points to Spain’s warm welcome, friendly locals, and the general sense that things are, well, safe and well-organised. Add in the cultural variety, natural beauty, and that famously laid-back lifestyle, and you have got the perfect holiday destination.
The 2025 findings also show a noticeable shift in what holidaymakers are after. Gone are the days of cramming onto packed beaches, now it is all about meaningful experiences and sustainability.
Flight connections are also on the up, not just within Europe but to and from far-flung places like the Americas and Asia. While summer still draws the biggest crowds, off-season travel is becoming all the rage.
