If you fancy seeing Elda’s Fallas from a slightly different perspective this weekend, leave the car behind and bring your bike.
BiciFallas returns on Sunday, September 27, combining two things the city is celebrating this week: the Fallas and European Mobility Week.
The group cycle ride takes participants around Elda’s different Fallas districts, offering an easy way to see the monuments and enjoy the atmosphere while getting around on two wheels.
Sunday morning ride through Elda
BiciFallas will start at 09:00 from the Zona Centro falla in Plaza Castelar.
The route will visit the different Fallas districts before returning to Plaza Castelar, with monitors accompanying the cyclists and Protección Civil providing additional support.
The event has become a regular part of Elda’s Mobility Week programme and is open to adults and children.
There is one important requirement: everyone taking part must wear a helmet, including adults.
How to register for BiciFallas
You can register in advance online, although organisers will also accept registrations at the starting point on Sunday morning.
With the ride taking place during the Fallas weekend, it also offers visitors an opportunity to see more of the celebrations without having to find parking around the different districts.
Learn to ride and repair a bike on Friday
There is another cycling event taking place before BiciFallas.
The Aprende a circular en bici workshop, which rain forced organisers to postpone last Friday, will now take place on Friday, September 25 at Elda’s Parque Infantil de Tráfico.
Organisers will run sessions at 17.30, 18.30 and 19.30.
The workshop has two parts. Children can practise how to cycle safely using the traffic park, with students from the mobility course at CIPFP Valle de Elda running the activity.
A second part will teach participants some basic bicycle maintenance and repairs, with Feu Vert providing the instruction.
Make a weekend of the Elda Fallas
BiciFallas coincides with Elda’s Fallas, which run from September 24 to 27 in honour of San Crispín and San Crispiniano, the patron saints of shoemakers.
Ten Fallas districts will take part in this year’s celebrations, filling different areas of the city with monuments and festivities.
There is also a free guided Fallas tour on Sunday at 11:00, organised to coincide with World Tourism Day. The walk starts from Plaza de la Constitución and lasts around 90 minutes, with the chance to learn more about the history and traditions behind Elda’s Fallas.
The tour finishes in time for participants to experience the main mascletà.
So whether you prefer two wheels or two feet, Sunday provides a good excuse to explore Elda and discover a festival closely connected with the city’s identity and shoemaking heritage.
