Elda is once again stepping proudly into its role as the City of Christmas, and it is doing it in style.
The city has put together a long list of activities and events that will reach every inch of Elda and suit every age group.
The celebrations begin on Friday, 28 November at 19.00 with the switching on of the Christmas lights. Plaza Mayor will once again be the place of the action, with an evening full of magic and music.
The mayor added that the Christmas lighting will be expanded again this year with plenty of new features.
As for the Three Kings Parade, the route will change because of redevelopment works in the old town. It will begin in the usual spot and then continue along San José de Calasanz and Lamberto Amat, followed by Calderón de la Barca, Virgen de los Desamparados, Padre Manjón, Antonino Vera, Elia Barceló, Dahellos, Jardines and Juan Carlos I, ending at Plaza Castelar.
The Royal Camp will also have a new setting this year. It will take place from 2 to 4 January in the Jardín de la Música. Children can give their letters to the Royal Postman on 2 January.
Boost in entertainment
The mayor also highlighted the boost in entertainment across the main shopping areas, with parades and activities. These will appear in the city centre, including Antonio Vera and Juan Carlos I, but also in other popular shopping zones such as Pablo Iglesias Street, Gran Avenida, Sector 9 and the area around Avenidas Alfonso XIII, Filipinas and Olimpiadas.
The programme includes all the classic Christmas events that Elda residents look forward to each year:
- Christmas Market from 12 to 14 December
- Christmas Eve Afternoon celebrations
- San Silvestre race which is on the national calendar for the first time
- New Year’s Eve Party in Castelar
- Torch Descent
- Three Kings Parade
Neighbourhoods will also enjoy the Christmas School and plenty of festive street entertainment.
The programme offers something for everyone, with concerts, theatre and ballet at the Teatro Castelar, jazz performances, children’s workshops and much more.

Elda: City of Christmas poster
The mayor explained that the poster has a storybook style with a cultural touch. The slogan stays the same, Once upon another time, Elda, City of Christmas. Elda likes to reinvent itself every December, becoming a real life Christmas tale.
Front and centre on the poster is a Christmas tree made entirely out of shoes, a nod to one of Elda’s most famous symbols. The whole design is sprinkled with a touch of magic and topped with the fleur de lis from Elda’s coat of arms.
