The Costa Blanca’s industrial sector is beginning to pick up pace again.
A combination of lower interest rates, stronger domestic demand and a more favourable international environment has helped boost both sales and production, according to the latest sector report from the Chamber of Commerce.
Between January and September, industrial exports rose by 5% compared with the same period last year, reaching €4.296 billion. The strongest performance came from food and beverages (€577 million) and aluminium (€280.4 million), both growing by an impressive 19%.
Not all sectors fared as well. Machinery (€373.5 million) and toys (€54.3 million) recorded notable drops of 4.8% and 10.1%. The footwear and marble industries also slipped, although footwear is beginning to stabilise after several challenging years.
Alicante’s main export destinations, Germany, Portugal and Italy, all posted increases. In contrast, France, still the province’s largest market, saw a 4.8% decline in demand.
Costa Blanca’s industrial sector: New markets
Beyond the traditional European partners, the real momentum is coming from several emerging markets where exports are growing rapidly, even if overall volumes remain modest for now.
Within the EU, Poland has become one to watch. It now accounts for 3% of Alicante’s industrial exports (€109.1 million), with sales up 24%, the strongest growth inside the Union.
Outside Europe, the trends are even more striking:
- China: up 40%, exceeding €72 million
- Algeria: up 53%, reaching €45.56 million
- South Korea: smaller volumes but a remarkable 103% year-on-year increase
These fast-growing destinations suggest where the next big opportunities may lie for Alicante’s industry. While the recovery is still tentative, the figures point toward a sector gradually finding its rhythm again, and broadening its horizons in the process.
