The Villajoyosa Coastal Trail, also known as the Colada de la Costa, is a lovely scenic walk along one of the few untouched parts of the Alicante coastline.
The route starts at Playa del Torres, a quiet beach in Villajoyosa, and follows the coast towards Cala de Finestrat. The full walk is about 4 kilometres, with a few gentle climbs and descents.
The trail begins just a few metres from the sea, marked by a wooden railing and steps. Before heading off, it’s worth taking a quick detour to see the Torre de Sant Josep. This Roman funerary tower is the best-preserved of its kind in Spain and has signs explaining its history.
Villajoyosa’s Coastal Trail: Buenas vistas!
Once you start walking, the path climbs slightly before levelling out. From here, the views are fantastic. You will be walking high enough above sea level to see far across the coast, with plenty of chances to stop and enjoy the scenery. Some side paths lead down to hidden coves, great if you fancy a paddle.
One of the main highlights is El Racó del Conill, a small naturist beach with clear waters that are perfect for snorkelling. The beach is actually made up of two small coves, split by a rocky ledge. The one on the left is smaller, while the right-hand side is a bit larger and more private. In summer, it can get busy, but it still feels far from the usual crowds.
After visiting the beach, you can carry on uphill towards Torre del Aguiló. This old watchtower was built in the 16th century to keep an eye out for pirate ships. Today, it stands about 150 metres above sea level and offers one of the best views along the route. Although the tower itself is closed to the public, it is a lovely spot for a picnic, with tables nearby.
The final part of the walk takes you downhill via wooden steps to Cala de Finestrat, also called Cala Morales. This marks the end of the wilder part of the trail, as from here the coast becomes more built-up.
