If there is an 18-year-old in your family, there could be €400 waiting to help pay for everything from books and cinema tickets to a musical instrument.
Applications remain open for Spain’s 2026 Bono Cultural Joven (Youth Cultural Voucher), with anyone born in 2008 who meets the eligibility rules able to apply until 31 October.
This year’s scheme also comes with a significant change. For the first time, young people can use the money towards instruments, artistic materials and cultural courses.
That could make the voucher particularly useful for international families living on the Costa Blanca, but nationality and residence rules matter.
Who can claim the €400?
The Bono Cultural Joven is for young people who turn 18 during 2026.
That means an eligible British or other foreign 18-year-old legally resident on the Costa Blanca could potentially apply.
More than 200,000 young people had already applied during the first month of this year’s scheme. The Ministry of Culture says the 2026 edition is the fifth since the programme began.
What can you spend the money on?
This year applicants choose between two different ways of using their €400.
The first divides the money into three spending pots. Up to €200 can go towards live entertainment, cinema, museums, festivals, cultural courses and creative equipment. This category now includes musical instruments, sheet music, cameras and certain software designed for creative work.
Another €100 can go towards physical cultural products, including books, magazines, newspapers, video games, vinyl records and CDs.
The final €100 covers digital purchases and subscriptions. These include audiobooks, e-books, digital music, cultural courses and subscriptions to music, reading, audiovisual and other eligible services.
Or spend all €400 on creating something
The second option is one of the big changes for 2026.
Instead of dividing the €400 between different categories, applicants can choose to put the full amount towards one eligible creative category.
That could be cultural courses and workshops, a musical instrument, or creative and artistic equipment and materials.
Choose carefully, however. The official Bono Cultural Joven website specifically warns applicants to take care when selecting their preferred spending option.
How do you apply?
Applications must go through the official Bono Cultural Joven website electronically.

The deadline is 23:59 on Saturday 31 October 2026. The official call confirms both the €400 maximum payment and the application deadline.
Applicants need an accepted form of digital identification, such as Cl@ve or a digital certificate. A young person can complete the process personally or use an adult representative, following the required representation procedure.
Once approved, the €400 comes through a prepaid card, which beneficiaries can use at businesses and organisations participating in the scheme.
You have a year to spend it
There is no need to race around spending €400 immediately after approval.
Recipients have up to one year from the date their grant is awarded to use the money on eligible purchases and activities. Any unused balance disappears once that period ends.
Purchases must also go through businesses or organisations participating in the Bono Cultural Joven programme.
For Costa Blanca families with somebody born in 2008, the important date for now is 31 October. Miss the application deadline and that potential €400 cultural pot disappears before anyone gets the chance to argue over whether it should fund books, gigs or a new guitar.
