It seems Alicante-Elche Airport is growing faster than many of us can unpack our holiday suitcases.
The airport has just closed a record-breaking September, welcoming more than 1.9 million passengers through its doors.
During the first nine months of the year, over 15.3 million travellers have passed through Alicante-Elche, a sign that the airport is busier than ever. September alone saw a 5.9 per cent rise in passenger numbers compared to the same month last year, while flight operations were also up by 4.7 per cent.
Alicante-Elche Airport: Setting records
The total passenger count for September reached 1,907,274, setting yet another monthly record. Most of this growth came from international travel, which saw an impressive 8 per cent increase with 1,685,462 passengers. Domestic flights, on the other hand, recorded 220,205 travellers, which was an 8 per cent drop compared to last year.
As usual, British travellers topped the charts with 653,522 passengers heading to or from the United Kingdom. Germany followed with 118,783 passengers, then the Netherlands with 110,166, Belgium with 92,439, and France with 89,730. Clearly, Alicante’s sunshine continues to draw quite the international crowd.
When it comes to flights, September was just as strong. The airport managed 11,691 operations, another record and a 4.7 per cent increase from the same period last year.
From January to September, the figures are equally impressive. Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport handled a total of 15,317,278 passengers, an 8.7 per cent increase on last year’s numbers. In the same period, there were 95,524 flights, up by 8.5 per cent.
Aena Group
Across the Aena Group, which operates forty-six airports and two heliports in Spain, as well as London Luton and seventeen airports in Brazil, the trend has been equally positive. In September 2025, the group recorded 35,760,852 passengers, a 2.7 per cent increase compared to the previous year. Aircraft movements rose by 2.4 per cent to 299,292, while cargo volumes grew nearly 10 per cent, reaching 132,905 tonnes.
